How did it get so late so soon?
It's night before it's afternoon.
December is here before it's June.
My goodness how the time has flewn.
How did it get so late so soon?

The theme this week at Inspiration Avenue is
The Power of Words
I think the quote above is so true.
I think the quote above is so true.
My son left for college this week, and is now
officially on his own. Only about 50 miles
away, so not so far.
Far enough for him to feel independent,
and far enough for me to throw out
all the shoes he left behind! Yucky shoes!
To pretend his room is now a guest room?
Nah, I think (hope) he'll still be using it
from time to time.
Speaking of words,
I'll leave you with some quotes I like:
Of course there's a lot of knowledge in universities:
the freshmen bring a little in;
the seniors don't take much away,
so knowledge sort of accumulates.
~Abbott Lawrence Lowell
Twenty years from now you will be more
disappointed by the things you didn't do
than by the ones you did.
So throw off the bowlines,
sail away from the safe harbor.
sail away from the safe harbor.
Catch the trade winds in your sails.
Explore. Dream. Discover.
~ Mark Twain
~ Mark Twain
It is always sad when someone leaves home,
unless they are simply going around the corner
and will return in a few minutes
with ice-cream sandwiches.
~ Lemony Snicket
with ice-cream sandwiches.

A professor is one who
talks in someone else's sleep.
talks in someone else's sleep.
~W.H. Auden
And finally:
If at first you don't succeed,
do it like your mother told you.

What a beautiful piece and such a lovely heartfelt post!! Love it all...and what a gorgeous and inspiring creation and tribute to " the power of words" ! Wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteYay! You rock!
Ah, but they come back to visit from time to time. It's been some time since my two daughters left the nest. The friendship you form when they're adults is quite magical.

ReplyDeletebeautifully said and illustrated!
ReplyDeleteah...the door evokes such emotion for me. Sent my first child off on his own 3 years ago and the second is chomping at the bit to go once he finishes senior year. Very lovely tribute.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautifully.

I love this piece and the Dr. Seuss quote you stuck in is so true! Our daughter just started her junior year and I know if I blink, she'll be off too college.....
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday!
xoxo
Thanks everyone for such lovely comments! To all who have had children leave home, and to those who have it coming in the future, I know you can relate! Sad, but it's how it's meant to be.
ReplyDeleteImagine the alternative! A 50-year-old, living at home! Ha, but I guess it does happen...
This is wonderful Maggie - I love it! I wondered if you were thinking of your son when you did it? And yes you're right, we raise them so they can go out and make their own way in the world - when they do it's proof that you've done a great job (but hugs to you, my son's not quite there yet but I'm already anxious about it!)
ReplyDeleteThese quotes are wonderful Maggie - most were new to me too - I especially love the Auden one! Reminds me of trying to keep awake in lectures. I dread my son flying the nest. Today he came back from a 2 week holiday with his Dad. I've missed him so much. It's wonderful to have him in my arms again and to laugh together.
ReplyDeleteHi Maggie,
ReplyDeleteThese are some fun quotes you rounded up for us. I enjoyed reading them. Thanks for dropping by with your well wishes. I'm glad to be back.
As far as taking Mermaids I'm not sure yet. I should have signed up when it was cheaper. lol. I might still do it. I'm taking the conti. education class at my own pace right now. She is not helping out any more tho...closed down the discussion room for that one. Oh well.
Geee wish I could take all of her classes. I wanted to take the Goddess and poet...did you like it?
I LOVE this quote!! As well as the last one about Mother!! Too cute!
