None of Your Beeswax...
Or perhaps I should call this post
"Fear of Beeswax"
Since I've been taking Suzi Blu's classes, I've been
instructed at the end of each painting to give it a
nice coating of luscious beeswax. This sounds
good in theory, and looks amazing on Suzi's paintings,
but somehow I am sure I'll destroy all my
hard work by dripping hot wax onto it.
And then I will absolutely have to call it "finished"
since you can't do anything else with it once
you've applied the beeswax. Hmmm...
I wonder if that's the real reason...
Oh well, like Scarlet O'Hara,
I'll think about that another day.
So, this is the one that will finally get the beeswax.
The picture above was snapped sans beeswax because
I knew it was way past time to do the post for
Inspirations Avenue's "Pink"
and The Three Muses "Vintage".
And having nothing to submit
for either challenge was not gonna happen!
As soon as this post is finished, I will
be applying a coat of beeswax to this very painting.
With so much collaging and layering,
it definitely needs a topcoat of something.
WiSh mE LuCk!
In the mean time, visit both
Inspiration Avenue and The Three Muses
to see the (as usual) amazing entries to both challenges.

Maggie I think the beeswax will be the perfect finish. I must admit that the first time I used it I was pretty scared too. I bought the pellets (because they were cheaper), then used my iron to melt them onto the picture. I'm sure this is not the way to do it, but I couldn't afford to go out and buy a quilting iron like Suzi uses. Anyway, it worked. HOwever, I don't think it's such a good idea to use your normal iron, so I got a cheapie one for just £3.50 - serious bargain - which I'll keep for the purpose. It's a lovely picture - go on ... be brave....
ReplyDeleteSuper beautiful..what a gorgeous fabulous piece..I love it! Shine on..it is dazzling!
ReplyDeleteVictoria~
gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteI love beeswax, it adds a glow and texture you will love!
I have admired many paintings finished with beeswax but have never tried it either. Your painting is good. Let us know how you like the wax.
ReplyDeleteYou must be one of Suzi's star students. This is beautifully done, and I don't blame you for hesitating with the beeswax, but I'm sure it will be lovely afterward too!
ReplyDeleteOh wow this is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteFabulous colors. Love it.
Gorgeous! I can understand your trepidation as far as the beeswax goes---but I'd just say "go for it!" That's the fun part about creating, experimenting and finding new joys!

Can't wait to see it post beeswax! Please post it!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful
ReplyDeleteLooks like it is ready for the beeswax to me. A great entry for the IA challenge.
ReplyDeleteDarla (peeking at the challenge results early)
GOOD LUCK! And I know you'll post the results because I'll be dying to see! Also, I LOVE so many things about this piece- her arms full of flowers, the layers of details in the background of lace and more flowers and that antique letter....I just love it!
ReplyDeleteI really really want to try beeswax - I love the effect, though I know what you mean Maggie it must be scary when you have such a lovely piece to risk spoiling it!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful with or without wax - I love the vintage romantic feeling :)
Your painting is so romantic. It really caught my eye. I love the old fashioned look that you have created so perfectly. And her face is adorable. I don't think it needs wax, but I am only looking at a picture. I DO think it's a perfect challenge piece.
ReplyDeleteVery nicely done! Has a vintage vibe.
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonder piece. The flowers add a beautiful layer to her. Her eyes are so catching. Beautiful piece.
ReplyDeleteIt's really lovely!
ReplyDeleteI love your painting! Love it!
ReplyDeleteCourage for the beewax!
Blessings
